FISH RIVER CANYON NATIONAL PARK
THE FISH RIVER CANYON NATIONAL PARK
The second largest Canyon in the world, its dimensions are quite impressive at 160 km long, 27 km wide. In some areas it is as deep as 550 m.
Two rest camps are available in the Park :
- Hobas in the northern part offers a spectacular view of the gorge.
- Ais Ais in the southern part is situated inside the gorge on the edge of the river, Ais Ais is famous for its hot springs.
The Kokerboom, actually an aloe (the aloe dichotoma) is found mainly in the southern part of the Namib desert.
Near Keetmanshop and around the Fish River Canyon this plant grows abundantly.
An 85 km long hiking trail joins Hobas to Ais Ais. It has a reputation for being as difficult as it is beautiful.
