The Himba live in the North West tip of Namibia, Kaokoland is a steep region, its isolation relatively protected the Himba from the influences of Western civilization.

The Himbas lifestyle is very traditional, they are farmers, their staple diet is composed almost exclusively of animal protein (meat and fermented milk goats, cows are reserved for special occasions) and maize meal they trade or buy. Salt, sugar, coffee, tea have recently appeared in the regime Himba.

The people descended from the Bantu, who came from North about four centuries ago. They are in the same family than the Herero who represent the transaction records to the Western cultures.

If there is a place where the ethno-tourism opens a debate, it’s Kaokoland. The influences of the civilizations are quickly felt and attitudes
